Ceramic tile, Clay
The project started with papier- mache models of fantastical sea creatures made by sixth grade students. They’re not quite fish and not quite monsters. Eighth grade students then drew the fish based upon the models and created a mock-up of all of them. The mock-ups were blown up to 400 percent and collected into what grew into a six-foot-by twenty-foot mosaic. Hand-glazed ceramic tile was created, smashed, and placed on the wall to create the panoramic underwater mural.
Three hundred and fifty students collaborated on this mural to create it in eight days.
