Over 400 students glazed tiles, fired them, and then smashed them with hammers to create the pieces used in the mosaic. Students then painstakingly arranged the pieces into circular patterns.
As part of a unit where students learned about abstract artist, Wassily Kandinsky, his Farbstudie Quadrate was recreated in five days in a permanent eight-foot-by-ten-foot mosaic installation. The design was chosen because of the bright, bold colors and the focus on shape.
