Ceramic Tile, Clay
The Junior Kindergarten class designed and created this 9′ x 6′ ceramic tile mural. The hands-on learning experience was part of their Reggio Emilia curricula.
The children decided on a garden theme. They drew flowers and all aspects of a garden, including dirt, ant tunnels, worms and bulbs with roots. The children had many inspirations, and the mosaic was the result of their great ideas. Outlines of each child’s hand were created out of green glass and act as the grass in the mural. Clay worms were constructed, ant tunnels built, and ceramic flowers bloomed. The finished mural was constructed from vitreous glass, mirror, marbles, hand-glazed ceramic tiles, pebbles, shells, smalti and millefiore.
This mural was created by four-year-old children.
